2026 Election Cannabis Results for Georgia: What Changed for Patients

The November 3, 2026 election gave Georgia a new governor. It did not change a single medical cannabis rule. If you hold a Georgia registry card, nothing about it changed on Election Day.

Results below are preliminary, as of November 4, 2026. Counties are still canvassing and no result here is certified. Each figure is linked to its source so you can check the current count.

What Changed for Georgia Cannabis Patients on November 3, 2026?

Nothing in the medical program. No statewide ballot question in Georgia dealt with cannabis, and an election does not amend a statute on its own. The change is in who holds the governor's office.

ItemResult (preliminary)
Statewide cannabis measure on the ballotNone
Medical program changeNone

A new governor changes who signs or vetoes bills. It does not change existing law on its own. Any change to the medical program still needs a bill, a rule, or a court ruling.

Who Won the Georgia Governor Race?

Keisha Lance Bottoms (D) defeated Rick Jackson (R) for governor in preliminary results, as reported by WSB-TV. Nothing in this post predicts what the new governor will do on cannabis.

Was Cannabis on the Georgia Ballot in 2026?

No. Georgia voters approved three constitutional amendments on conservation land, probate judge elections, and 911 funding. None dealt with cannabis.

What Did Not Change in Georgia?

The Georgia program continues under SB 220, effective July 1, 2026, administered by the Georgia Department of Public Health. A change to it would need a bill passed by both chambers of the General Assembly and signed by the governor.

The Georgia program hub covers registration, and the Georgia marijuana laws page covers SB 220, possession penalties, and the registry in full.

Is the Georgia Card Fee Changing?

One change is coming that has nothing to do with the election. The Department of Public Health card fee is $30 through December 4, 2026 and $75 starting December 5, 2026, plus a payment portal service fee of $3.75 rising to $4.88, per the DPH patients and caregivers page (retrieved November 4, 2026).

What Happened in Other States?

No state voted on legalizing marijuana in 2026, according to Cannabis Now. Massachusetts Question 8, which would have repealed licensed adult use sales, and Idaho HJR 4, which would have given the Legislature sole power to legalize drugs, both failed in preliminary results. The states where cannabis is legal post has the full national table.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Does the Georgia election change the Georgia medical cannabis card?
No. Georgia had no statewide cannabis question on the 2026 ballot, and no medical cannabis statute changed on Election Day. The Georgia program continues under SB 220, effective July 1, 2026, and any change to it would need a bill passed by the General Assembly and signed by the governor. A card that was valid on November 2 is still valid.
What were the three Georgia constitutional amendments in 2026?
Georgia voters approved three constitutional amendments on November 3, 2026, according to preliminary results. They dealt with conservation land, probate judge elections, and 911 funding. None of them dealt with cannabis.
Who won the 2026 Georgia governor race?
Keisha Lance Bottoms (D) defeated Rick Jackson (R) in preliminary results as of November 4, 2026. A new governor changes who signs or vetoes bills. It does not change the Georgia medical cannabis program on its own.
Is the Georgia medical cannabis card fee changing?
Yes, but not because of the election. The Department of Public Health card fee is $30 through December 4, 2026 and $75 starting December 5, 2026, plus a payment portal service fee of $3.75 rising to $4.88, per the DPH patients and caregivers page (retrieved November 4, 2026).
